Henry James was born on 15th April, 1843 in New York City and died on 28th February, 1916. in Chelsea, England. Although James was born and bred in the USA, he spent most of his working life in England. James was particularly prolific, writing books on criticism, travel, autobiography and plays, besides his many novels. The Ambassadors is the novel which pleased James the most as it it used the first person narrative and seemed to get into the character of the person more. James was very interested in making his fictions as realistic as possible and using the first person narrative gave him the opportunity to convey the protagonist's feelings to a greater extent. James would focus on his characters and display their reactions to extreme emotional stress.

Book Review:

Strether has been sent to Paris to retrieve the son of his fiancee from the debaucheries of European civilisation. To Strether's surprise the relationahip which the son, Chad has formed is not debauched at all, and the culture he finds in Paris is rather refined. James here describes how easy it is to yearn for youth rather than grow into ourselves respectfully.
