Arthur Ransome was born in Switzerland on January 18, 1884 and died on June 3, 1967. Ransome is best known for his Swallows and Amazons series of nature books for children. Swallows and Amazons is the first novel in the 12 part Swallows and Amazons series.

Marion Zimmer Bradley was born on June 3, 1930 and dies on September 25, 1999. Bradley is known for her fantasy, historical fantasy amd science fiction novels, her most famous work being the novel about King Arthur, The Mists of Avalon. Heartlight is the fourth novel in the Witchlight series, written around the same time as Mists, but with a different emphasis.
