Michael Baigent (1948 - 2013)

Picture of Michael Baigent Michael Baigent was born on February 27, 1948, in Nelson, New Zealand in a devout Catholic family.

He received tutorage in Catholic theology from the age of five.

He died from a brain haemorrhage in 2013.

Michael Baigent is known for his collaboration with Richard Leigh on the investigative book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail

Richard Leigh (1943 - 2007)

Picture of Richard Leigh Leigh had an English father and an American mother. Although he was born in the USA he spent most of his life in the UK.

He has written two books (Erceldoune and Other Stories & Grey Magic) but he is best known for his collaborative work with Michael Baigent.

Leigh died from causes related to a heart condition eight months after losing the libel case against Random House.
Baigent and Leigh met in the late 1970's and they were to become a productive partnership, producing seven books.

The first book was The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail. This was a tremendous success.
It purported that Jesus did not die on the cross, but fled with Mary Magdalene and started a family in Europe.

The same supposition was later the basis of a novel, The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown.
Baigent and Leigh sued the publishers, Random House, only to lose and face huge costs. Neither was ever to overcome this predicament.
Leigh died eight months later. Baigent lived on, but was a shadow of his former self, finally succumbing to a brain haemorrhage in 2013.
