2005 John Fowles was born in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex on March 31, 1926 and died on November 5, 2005. John Fowles published his first novel, The Collector, in 1963. The Collector is a psychological thriller which was innovative and impactful at the same time. It was such a success that it allowed Fowles to give up his teaching job and concentrate on writing. Further success with The Magus and The French Lieutenant's Woman cemented his reputation as one of the best writers in the English language.

1955 Maggie Furey is a Fantasy Fiction writer. Maggie Furey was born in the UK but now lives in Wicklow, Ireland. She is known for her series Artefacts of Power which is about a young girl, Aurian who wishes to learn about magic. Aurian is the first book in the series.

1954 Jeffrey Sachs was born on November 5, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. He is an economist, academic and holds positions of high influence in the United Nations.

is a blueprint for the eradication of poverty throughout the world.

1930 Clifford Irving is an American journalist and novelist. He gained notoriety for his 'fictional' biography of Howard Hughes. The version of the biography so incensed Howard Hughes that he sued the publishers, McGraw Hill. Irving himself, spent time in prison over the affair. Clifford's own version of events are told in his later book, The Hoax.

1926 John Berger was born in London, England on November 5, 1926 and died on Jamuary 2, 2017. He attended both the Central and the Chelsea Schools of Art and started his working life as a painter. He has since distinguished himself as an art critic, a novelist and a poet. Berger has won the Booker Prize in 1972 for his novel, G. A Fortunate Man co-written with Jean Mohr, is about the life and politics of a country doctor.
