Augusten Burroughs is an American author who is best known for his 'memoir' Running with Scissors.

Burroughs was born on October 23, 1965 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Burroughs's home life was unstable, his parent's divorces when Augusten was 13.

By this time his older brother of eight years, John Elder had already left home.

His mother decided to send Augusten into the care of a psychiatrist, Dr. Rodolph Harvey Turcotte, where Augusten was to stay.

As they say, the rest is history, at least according to Augusten Burroughs.
