Elmore Leonard was born in New Orleans in 1925. Leonard's family settled in Detroit in 1935, having moved from Memphis when he was a ten-year-old. Elmore studied English Literature at the University of Detroit, graduating and following up with copywriting work for about 12 years. He then, in 1967, turned to writing as a career and has produced very many very successful and acclaimed novels which have won him many awards. Elmore Leonard died on August 20th, 2013, leaving a legacy of a collection of masterpieces that many more esteemed authors would be proud of.
