Iain M Banks. (1954 - 2013)
Iain Banks achieved immense acclaim and success for his first novel, The Wasp Factory. It is an unusual story with a surprising twist which caught the imagination of many readers and won him a large audience. In 1987, Iain Banks turned his attention to science fiction and published the first of his Culture novels Consider Phlebas For the Culture books and subsequent science fiction novels, he took on the name Iain M Banks, incorporating his middle name 'Menzies'.
