Ian Irvine was born in 1950 in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, but he started his writing career in 1998 when he was 48 years old. Irvine's career had been as a marine scientist until the writing bug caught him. Irvine has produced 27 novels, including the View from the Mirror series, the Human Rites series and the Well of Echoes series of novels. Geomancer is the first novel in the Well of Echoes series.
