John Berger was born in London, England on November 5, 1926 and died on January 2, 2017. He attended both the Central and the Chelsea Schools of Art and started his working life as a painter. He has since distinguished himself as an art critic, a novelist and a poet. Berger has won the Booker Prize in 1972 for his novel, G. A Fortunate Man co-written with Jean Mohr, is about the life and politics of a country doctor.
