Ray Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois, USA, on August 22, 1920. When Ray was 14, the family moved to Los Angeles, where his father found work to support them. They lived very close to the Uptown Theatre on Western Avenue. This excited Ray very much as he loved to sneak into previews. From a very early age, Ray was convinced that he would be involved in the arts. Bradbury never attended college. He has said "Libraries raised me. I don't believe in colleges and universities. I believe in libraries because most students don't have any money. When I graduated from high school, it was during the Depression and we had no money. I couldn't go to college, so I went to the library three days a week for 10 years" Bradbury's most famous work is Fahrenheit 451, which Ray describes as his only science fiction book.
