Roddy Doyle was born in Dalkey, County Dublin on May 8, 1958. Roddy Doyle is an Irish Novelist who won the 1993 Booker Prize for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha Doyle is also the author of The Barrytown Trilogy which includes The Van, The Commitments and The Snapper. All three of these were made into successful films. Another trilogy Roddy Doyle has undertaken is The Last Roundup. It is the story of Ireland in the 20th Century. A Star Called Henry kicks it off with the early life of Henry Smart who has to survive the vagaries of poverty and hunger and resistance to an occupation. Oh, Play That Thing continues with Henry on the run. He finds himself in Chicago in the company of a musician and this relationship is rewarding for Henry's part.The Dead Republic ends the trilogy as Henry returns to Ireland as a hero.
