A J Cronin was born in Cardross, Dunbartonshire in Scotland on July 19, 1896 and died on January 6, 1981. Archibald Joseph Cronin was famous for his books on medical fiction. 'The Citadel' is his most famous work, about a doctor climbing the career ladder. The Stars Look Down was also popular as it depicted life in a coal mining town. Cronin drew on his experience as a Medical Inspector of Mines.
