Antjie Krog was born in Kroonstadt in Orange Free State, South Africa in October 1952. She completed her BA degree in Afrikaans, Philosophy and English in the University of the Orange Freestate and obtained her Masters in Afrikaans in the University of Pretoria. She has long been opposed to the apartheid system of her fellow Afrikaans. Antjie caused some controversy with a poem she wrote for her school. She is a poet and her poems reflect her feelings on the apartheid system in South Africa. Country of My Skull is about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's attempt to get the truth about the Apartheid Years.
