Eric Newby was an English travel writer. Newby was the travel editor for the Observer from 1963 to 1973. Newby was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Guild of Travel Writers in 2001. Born in 1919, Newby died in Guildford in 2006, aged 86. Eric Newby has written 23 travel books about his experiences. A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush and Round Ireland in Low Gear are among his most accredited works.
