James Patterson was born in Newburgh, New York on March 22, 1947. Patterson was educated at Manhattan College and Vanderbilt University where he achieves his Batchelor of Arts and his Masters of Arts respectively. Patterson's books have been adapted for the big screen, most notably Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. This may be due to the character of Alex Cross, the protagonist in these novels, who was to go on for another 17 books, and still going strong. He must be doing something right, despite Stephen King saying that Patterson is "a terrible writer [but he's] very successful". Fair play to him. Or both of them.
