John Waters was born in May 1955 in Castlerea, County Roscommon. John Waters began his journalist career with Hot Press in 1981. From there he went on to work for the Sunday Tribune and after that he edited the In Dublin, an events magazine for the Irish capitol. On a Friday John Waters is a columnist for the Irish Times. Jiving at the Crossroads is his first book which deals with Ireland during Haughey's reign. Waters has surrounded himself in controversy with his column and radio broadcasts. These involved his views on bloggers. In 2008 Waters discovered through a television programme that his granduncle had died of starvation during the Great Famine.
