Richard Brautigan was born on January 30, 1935 in Tacoma, Washington in the USA. He died on September 16, 1984 in Bolinas, California. Richard Brautigan wrote poetry, novels and short stories. He was influenced by the San Francisco Beat poets and his own experiences in childhood. His mother married several times and the marriages were always short lived. Despite this his early novels were optimistic to the point of being idyllic. As time went by, they became darker, in line with his perception of the world. In September, 1984, Richard Brautigan shot and killed himself while in a depressed state.
