Richard Yates was born on February 3, 1926 in New York, USA, and died on November 7, 1992 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Yates was an American novelist and short story writer who wrote about the middle of the 20th century. Yates's home life was not a happy one. His parents divorced when he was three and so he moved around a lot. He left school and joined the army, and spent time in France and Germany during the WW2. After returning to the US, Richard took to journalism and writing for politicians and corporations, the most notably for Attorney General Robert Kennedy. His big break came with the publication of Revolutionary Road in 1961.
