Sigmund Freud was an Austrian psychoanalyst and psychologist who was born on May 6, 1856 and died on September 23, 1939. Freud was the father of psychoanalysis. He developed his ideas at a time when he was having sleep problems, and attributed this to the death of his father in 1896, whom he had hostile feelings for. Freud was a heavy smoker and this was to contribute to his death from cancer of the mouth.
