Thomas Hardy was a poet and a novelist who was born in Bockhampton, near Dorset, England in 1840. Hardy died in 1928. He wrote eight volumes of poetry and more than twenty novels. He wrote about the suffering and unhappiness caused by society, especially the political and religious oppresson on the individual.
