Thomas Keneally is an Australian novelist, playwright and essayist who was born in Sydney on October 7, 1935. Keneally is the author of Schindler's List, which won the 1982 Booker Prize for fiction.
Book Review:Based on historical fact. The Playmaker is set in Sydney cove, the remotest penal colony of the Empire where, in 1789, a group of convicts stage a play after travelling `eight moons distant from their homes on the other side of the sun`. As felons, perjurers, whores and thieves, captives and captors unite to re-enact a story, their playmaker becomes strangely seduced.
