Walter Tevis was born on February 28, 1928, in San Francisco, California, United States. Tevis published six novels and four of them have been adapted for the big screen. David Bowie starred in 'The Man Who Fell to Earth', and Paul Newman was in 'The Hustler' and Color of Money. The Queen's Gambit was Tevis's last book and was adapted for the big screen and was a bi hit. Walter Tevis died from lung cancer on August 9, 1984 in New York.
